Foolish, Flirty Bride Lusting After Lovers

Once upon a time… there was a bride… She was seen –by the whole watching world– walking down the isle… the groom up front, obviously overcome with intense love for her…

But a strange and sad thing was happening… The bride was chattering on her cell phone… continuously looking at herself with a mirror she held… intermittently raising her hands and giving exclamations about her “glorious, wonderful” husband-to-be… then glancing all over the church, flashing her eyes and her smile toward other men… She was obviously flirting, obviously very wrapped up in herself, and obviously had no true heart for the groom who she claimed she was committing and devoting her love, affections, body, strength, and whole life to.

Guess who this bride is…

You know who it is……

This “flirty bride” is the adulterous church.

But Jesus isn’t coming for an adulterous bride. He is coming for a pure, spotless bride who loves Him only and has no idols –no other lovers– in her heart.

~~Rev. 21:9-11,2– “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb… It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel… coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.”

~~Rev. 19:7,8– “The wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean… [which] stands for the righteous acts…”

~~Rev. 22:17– “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ …take the free gift of the water of life.”

~~Ezek. 6:9,12– [The LORD says,] “I have been grieved by their adulterous hearts, which have turned away from Me, and by their eyes, which have lusted after their idols… So I will spend My wrath on them.”

~~2 Peter 3:14,17– “So… make every effort to be found spotless, blameless, and at peace with Him… [and] be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position.”

~~1 Sam. 4:21,22– “She named the boy Ichabod, saying… ‘The glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God has been captured.'” Truly, the glory of the Lord is, even now, departing from His temple (Ezek. 10:18), His bride, because she has been enamored too long with those who seek to capture her heart through their seductions.

~~1 John 2:15– “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

~~James 4:4– “You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”

~~James 1:27– “Religion that God our Father accepts… [is] to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

~~Matt. 25:10-13– “…the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with Him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. Later the others also came. ‘Sir! Sir!’ they said. ‘Open the door for us!’ But He replied, ‘I tell you the truth, I don’t know you.’ Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.”

Why do people go on in their sin? Why can’t they learn the lesson when God is chastising them? As Jer. 5:3 says, “O LORD, do not Your eyes look for truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain; You crushed them, but they refused correction. They made their faces harder than stone and refused to repent.”

Do we cry out to the Lord for these souls? I do. I cry night and day. Jer. 9:1-5– “Oh, that my head were a spring of water and my eyes a fountain of tears! I would weep day and night for the slain… for they are all adulterers, a crowd of unfaithful people… it is not by truth that they triumph in the land. They go from one sin to another… Friend deceives friend, and no one speaks the truth… they weary themselves with sinning.”

The Lord loves us all so much. But He also absolutely hates sin. Are your eyes for Him alone, or are you too, an adulteress running after other gods the world offers?

To embrace the world, its philosophies, and pleasures, OR to tolerate sin, compromise, or false doctrines in the church will certainly bring upon oneself destruction. God commands for us even now, though not by physical violence, but by completely separating ourselves spiritually, just what He commanded back in Exodus. This time it is the New Covenant, but the “No Compromise” command still holds.

“Then the LORD said: ‘I am making a covenant with you… Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land where you are going, or they will be a snare among you. Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and cut down their Asherah poles [their gods]. Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land; for when they prostitute themselves to their gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you and you will eat their sacrifices.'” (Ex. 34:10-14)

How many “Christians” who claim to have made a binding covenant with the Holy Most High God through His Son, Christ Jesus, eat the sacrifices of this modern heathen world? I’d say, “most.” And how often? I’d say, “daily.” You know this is undeniable. You know that even YOU probably prostituted yourself with the world, its gods, its pleasures, its enticements, and its words… even today. And you do it every day. Yet you pretend you can keep walking down that isle toward your pure husband… foolishly not even realizing He’s left, having stamped the altar: “Ichabod.”

with love,
