The Cross Is The Good News

Friends,
Here is a tract I wrote several years ago, often passed out, and update here:

~~ What Happened At The Cross And How Can We Benefit From It? ~~

1. Jesus’ blood was the substitute for the penalty of everyone’s sins. (1 John 2:2)

“For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all men.” (1 Tim. 2:5,6)

“We all have gone astray… and the LORD has laid on Him [Jesus] the iniquity of us all.” (Isa. 53:6)

God’s grace teaches us to live holy lives as we wait for “the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us to redeem us…” (Titus 2:11-14)

2. Satan’s rule over us was defeated. (Acts 26:18)

“The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.” (1 John 3:8) (–that work of sin in us.)

“For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” (Col. 1:13)

“And having disarmed the [evil spiritual] powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” (Col. 2:15)

3. Jesus, who is the bodily form of God (Col. 2:9) bought us back for Himself.

“…with Your blood you purchased men for God.” (Rev. 5:9)

He “loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood.” (Rev. 1:5)

“…which He bought with His own blood.” (Acts 20:28)

4. We have all been offered the opportunity (John 3:16) and power (Rom. 1:16) to choose to believe in –or reject– what Jesus did for us. (2 Cor. 5:15 & 1 Tim. 1:15)

“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects / disobeys the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.” (John 3:36)

“How shall we escape [God’s wrath, Hell] if we ignore or neglect such a great salvation?” (Heb. 2:3)

“Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them.” (Heb. 7:25) He offers, we come, He forgives, He helps, He prays, we abide…

5. We can turn to God in repentance and choose to follow Him daily. (1 John 1:9,7)

“I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds.” (Acts 26:20)

“But unless you repent, you too will all perish.” (Jesus in Luke 13:3) –Thrown “into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Jesus in Matt. 13:42)

“If anyone would come after Me, He must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me… [for] anyone who does not carry his cross and follow Me cannot be My disciple.” (Luke 9:23 & 14:27)

6. We have been crucified with Christ. (Rom. 6:8 & 7:4 & Col. 3:3)

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” (Gal. 2:20)

“For we know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be rendered powerless, that we should no longer be slaves to sin– because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.” (Rom. 6:6,7)

So, “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” (Gal. 6:14)

~~ Yes, it is a totally new life, the old being completely gone (2 Cor. 5:17)… and it is GREAT NEWS! ! !

Rachel
