Endure for the Gold

The LORD says, “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.” (Isa. 66:13) That verse has so often given me serenity, hope, and courage. May it also for you.

“O afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted, I will build you with stones of turquoise… great will be your children’s peace. In righteousness you will be established…” (Isa. 54:11-14)

“I will guide him and restore comfort to him…” (Isa. 57:18) The restoration will come in His timing. And if we endure with calm patience, we will rejoice at God’s finished product –a gem worthy of use to Him.

Be encouraged by 1 Peter 2:19-21. It says, “It is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God… TO THIS YOU WERE CALLED, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His steps…” So the suffering is written into the plan… That is comforting; because we are assured that it is God who reigns sovereign even over heartaches and disasters.

How about this?: “Rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ… for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.” (1 Peter 4:13,14) Yes, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, NOT LACKING ANYTHING.” (James 1:2-4)

I know we all wish it didn’t have to be this way. But I guess the “dross” in our character has to be refined out, and this is the way it is done. Can an easy life produce strong individuals? It can’t. Can avoidance of training produce medical doctors, soldiers, or Olympic winners? It can’t. But unfortunately, many won’t accept God’s spiritual training process… so they get thrown on the “junk” heap labeled “Useless”.

But the rest of us… –“when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold.” (Job 23:10) And gold is valuable…

We who endure become so very valuable… to Him. Useful to the Master.

We are dearly loved,
